LITTLE CHINA IN INDONESIA: SAM POO KONG

04 AUGUST 2018

It's a free day which means that we can start exploring the beautiful Semarang. We were accompanied by two of our friends, Irca and Beauty. They are students of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) who will also be participating in the SEATeach Program at Pangasinan, Philippines. It is a great timing for us to bond before they leave so that we can also exchange ideas of our own country's culture and educational system. Being with them during the first week just feels comfortable and welcoming because they're bubbly, kind, and a little crazy too!

The first thing that we did was to exchange our money to rupiah, then fix our malfunctioning local sims. After all of our errands, we went to a famous Chinese Temple in Semarang called Sam Poo Kong. According to them, this is the first and oldest Chinese Temple in Semarang. Walking to this centuries-old temple, you can see how intricate and magnificent the traditional Chinese architecture is. It's perfectly matched with a touch of Indonesian culture as people are entertained with traditional music. If you really wanted to have a full experience, you can also rent Chinese costumes as you stroll around the pace.

I bet Irca and Beauty were knocked-down when they arrived at their homes. It was a non-stop photoshoot under the heat of the sun. Well, what can I say? Carpe Diem,  Seize every moment!
